No, thats deff Lodge Rd, but I was always under the impression it was the Art College not a Grammar School ? That bit towards the end Lee, is looking up Lodge Rd with the corner of the Town Hall seen on the Left with the cars outside

Yes, it was the Grammar School until 1964 or so, then we all moved to the new building in Heath Lane.

The first part of the film definitely shows pupils coming out of the main entrance in Lodge Road. A little bit further into the film, pupils are shown coming out of the small doorway which is located in the High Street. During my time there (1962 onwards), I don't recall that small doorway being in use, but I could be wrong

I remember the film being shot by ATV in 1958 for a news report. There was a "student's revolt" due to a ruling by the head (Mr Wood) that students were forbidden to buy fish and chips at lunch times in the High Street. I think it was considered that Grammar School kids should be above eating fish and chips in the street! Can't remember the outcome of the "revolt" or exactly how we revolted. But can remember going home and seeing us on the telly. Afraid I can't recognise anyone in the film but I can recall them filming outside the gate into the High Street.

You have answered my question Steve ! I was trying to work out where that small doorway was and thinking about it, I am sure it's still there but bricked up ?? I will pop up in a bit to see if I am dreaming or not ! Paul

Cgris,
I'm sure I do, I think she taught me 'O' level English. Was she fairly short, dark hair and glasses?

The door in the high street was the entrance to the playground and in the clip you will notice that the pupils all had bicycles, older members will remember we used to use these to get to school, this is because the bike shed was in the left hand corner of the playground a place for cribbing late homework and other frowned upon activities as well as parking bicycles

Well I'll be damned! Do say hello Chris. I don't know if she will remember me. (I was a contemporary of such folk as John Fox, Linda Penn, Olive Robbins, Wayne Luckman. It may jog the old memory).

The wooden door on the High Street gave access to the school through the boys playground. On Lodge Road there were three entrances, walking down towards the High street the first one was between the Art School and the Grammar School - a railing gate gave access to a playground for girls from years 1 and 2. Access to the building was through double doors by the woodwork room and the/Gym. The second entrance was the main entrance and the third was a single door by the senior cloakrooms.

What a small world Chris Hill
When I went to Secondary Technical School (formerly Cronehills) your mother was there as Miss Gadd (later to become Mrs Hill) but the extraordinary thing is that my best friend Barbara Daniels (formerly Cooksey) was cousin to your father.

Hello Sue
It is a coincidence but there were 2 Barbara Cookseys and they both went to West Bromwich Grammar School (or at least I think they both went there!) I know my friend did. I went to Moor Street Methodist when I was a child and sometimes I went to Lyng Methodist. I remember Barbara Cooksey (who I think was older than my friend) and she went to Moor street and was friendly with someone with surname Irons.
