That photograph of buses outside Timothy Whites is an absolute cracker.  It perfectly captures the image of the bustling, thriving town that we once new.  Note what appears to be two Bus Inspectors watching over proceedings.  I wonder if it was near the rush hour as there are quite a few buses about and I can well remember the Inspectors were often to be seen during the rush hour supervising and sometimes making decisions on the spot with regard to terminating a bus prematurely so it could begin its return leg, whilst the passengers were transferred to another bus.  I don't ever recall a pedestrian crossing outside Broadhead's.  I don't know when it was removed.

I can't remember the Zebra Crossings there either Steve, If you look at the other picture a bit further down the page, taken in the 1960s the Zebra Crossing has gone and they have put crossing lights

What a great bustling town it once was.

I know that I will probably be in the minority here but I believe that the heart of the town went as soon as they stopped the traffic going up it
