I have been donated some cracking photos which will be added over the next few days

I have been given a photo by John Edward Mason (J.E.M) of Roy Peplows's bike shop on Carters Green, his shop was at the corner of Carters Green Passage, opposite St Andrews (I can't for the life of me remember it !)

I have also been given a few photos from Anne Kelly Moran whos parents ran the Star & Garter for a few years in the 60s and 70s, in these photos are shots of Frank the barman who must go down in history as perhaps the best Barman ever to have graced a West Brom Pub

He was barman at the Star for years and then went over the road to the Sandwell (Now the Goose) and I am sure he went to work at the Jinglers later on but I am not 100% ?

All of these will be on very soon and many thanks to J.E.M and Ann for these great donations

OMG yes, Frank, I remember him, the Irish chap, he was behind the bar at the Star every single time you went in there and he always called you Sir or Mr and he always asked how you was

When he got to know you he used to know exactly what you were drinking as you walked in and when he was serving someone else he used to start pulling your pint even before you told him what you wanted

He really was a nice chap, is he still there, mind you he must be getting on a bit now ?

Hello NZ Baggie,

Frank died not long ago and I am sure he was at the Jinglers, I will ask my old man, he knew him well

Wasn't there a barman called Ted, I believe he was in the Cocktail Lounge in the Star and Garter. The height of sophistication on a Saturday Night, He always wore a white jacket?

I remember Frank well from the Star and the Goose.

Hi Barbara,

Yes... Ted always wore a white coat to work. He was a really nice gentleman and was very much at home behind the counter at the Star in those days.

Hi Guys,

I am posting a correction to some earlier information I posted. Mom and I had a chat and Frank retired from the Jinglers Pub. The Country Girl was a pub he worked in long before he came to West Brom and the Star. So sorry for confusing things.   ♥

OMG, Yes, I remember him, he really was a nice chap, didn't know he died

I used to go in the S&G more or less every night when the Breen's had it and it used to be heaving

I had the unfortunate chance to go there a few months ago, my god what a dump it is now, it was that bad we didn't even buy a drink, turned around and walked out

Who remembers the name of that one up by woolies where you had to go downstairs to it, it's been on my mind for ages, more or less opposite M&S

THe pub you were thinking of was The Hornpipe. Decked out like a ships galley. Prefered The Old Crown in Sandwell Road myself

can anyone remember when Don Barton kept the S & G or am I the oldest drinker, I remember he had an old Bentley car which I understand  he sold a Spitfire aeroplane to buy. He left the S & G to keep the George Hotel in Bewdley. After his time in the late 1950's the barmaid in the lounge bar was Debbie, does anyone remember her.Happy drinking daysin the 1950's and early1960's
