From what I gather and I don't know how true it was but there was talk about it treating sex offenders on the hush hush
A bit of a change to the chest and TB clinic it used to be !

I think you will find that Michael has got it in one Alice !
It used to be a chest clinic years ago, and by all accounts it wasn't a very nice place to end up, especially if you got the dreaded TB and there was a piece in the Black Country Bugle about it being used during the TB outbreaks
I will see if I can find the piece
As for what Michael said about offenders, it was common local knowledge that it was used for offenders and they tried to keep it quiet

It was used for any and all Chest problems. Me mom worked there for several years and although it was originally just TB and Diptheria it later had anything from TB to Lung Cancer. They were very good at what they could do for the patients the Consultant was a Mr Cole? who was revered by many of the staff. They used to get the patients helping with the gardens etc and ran quite a holistic approach. There was a unit at the bottom of the Hospital grounds (not part of the hospital itself) that was apparently a lock up centre for offenders of some description but it was not made clear what!! It was called by someone's name.

My Grandad was there in the very early 60's, I never went as it wasn't 'suitable' for children to visit, he did eventually come home. A friends Mom however was there for a while:TB as my childs memories dictate but was then moved to Himley Hall, they must have done something right as that lady is still alive.

I heard a rumour today that there is a new unit being built at Heath Lane. I also recollect memories of people in the old unit one of which was a double amputee who went there to recover.
