I am looking for photographs of this street.  My mother and her family lived here during the early 1900's.

Many thanks, I think I have found it.  My mother died in 2008 aged 94 and started to make a dolls house - we have decided to finish it in her memory.  We have no photographs of her family house but need to know the colour of the brickwork.

Welcome to the forum Mary,

That house to the right on the photo is still there and opposite that house, about 20 yards down, was a Pub, (for the life of me I can't remember the name of it) and next to the pub was a row of terraced houses where the front door opend straight onto the pavement, they were demolished around 20 years ago.

Now, the brickwork on those houses was the same colour as the brickwork on that building which is on that photo and they were a reddish brown brick

Paul, Thank you for your information - it is very useful. My mother was born at 69 Old Meeting Street (a tall narrow house on three floors) in 1914 and lived there until 1935 with her six brothers and sisters. Her name was Emily Ready and she attended Black Lake and St. Michaels schools and after leaving school she worked at Hill & Longs. The last of her siblings Lily, died last year aged 89 and she said the colour of the brick was a pinkish brown but reddish brown sounds right. I understand this street has completely changed and much of it no longer exists. Although none of the present generation lived in West Bromwich, we were told many stories of their happy childhood there.  I have enjoyed viewing the photos on your site and many of the place names ring a bell.

Thank you John -  My grandfather, John Ready, was brought up in Oak Road and I think he was one of eight children so the chances are that this Ready was a member of his family, as it is an unusual surname.  I have a school photograph of my Mother with her class taken at St Michaels circa 1924.  My cousin, Michael Houghton, went to St. Michaels around the time you were there, he had twin brothers, Pat and Tony.
