the old house in hargate lane we called the ivy house it was unoccupied for years we used to play in there after school

anyone have any idea who owned it and why it was empty date about 1950

Hi Joan, The old house in Hargate Lane was owned by the Simms family who also owned the builders yard on the corner of Mill Street and Tantany Lane. This is where the old windmill stood but that was before my time. The pub in Tantany Lane was named after this windmill. Why the old house was left empty I dont know but we also played there after the war and found all sorts of interesting things in the house including old films. It would be interesting to find out why it was left.
