Looking at that cold wintery photo with the Jesson on the right on the West Brom now page brought back many, many memories, we used to watch the Sunday Football teams on the Jesson every Sunday morning, all weathers too.

We used to play football on there too, we used to help put the goal posts up on Sundays, just to get the chance of kicking the ball in the net before the game started, but all of that dog mess was a nightmare as was the mud, it must have been the muddiest, wettest pitches in the Midlands, ever wetter that the Rec down Claypit Lane !

I remember my Mom telling me that there was a Murder over there years ago and that a ghost haunted the park, but I am 100% certain now that she only told us that to get us back in before it got dark !

You can have your winters, that snow really looks bleak, especially when we are wallowing in our summer here in Wellington, but you will have to feel sorry for us in July, August, & September when we are shivvering in our winter !

While I am on the subject of the Jesson, what was the name of that pub not far from where the photo was taken, on the left, I can see it now

On the opposite corner from the Pub on the corner of Garratt St and the road that goes down the side of the Jesson is where my Nan`s family came from  the Jay`s there were 14 children,

( the big house on the corner of both streets )

They owned Isacc Jay the Sack manufacturers on the corner of Brett St on the other side of the Jesson which is today owned by J9 properties and converted into bedsits. It was  " Uncle Ike " that owned the business. He bought the premises from H.R. Longhurst the barrell manufacturers who relocated to Black Lake.

Mary Longhurst the last surviving member of the family lives over the road from my Mother in Bustleholme Lane.

That`s what my mom used to call him.

I played on the Jesson years and years ago on a Sunday in a local cup semi-Final and me Dad was fighting on the touchline with the Dad of someone else on the opposite side, I never played again it was really bad !

I remember how heavy the pitch was and we used to get large crowds there on Sundays, Can't understand why they stopped playing Sunday matches on there ?
