Just been having a look at the images of the Beautiful 1960s "Daimler" buses of yesterday on "Old West Bromwich Photos". Apparently wartime utility buses, were being scrapped in the early fifties. My late dad had someone call round to the house, and was asked, if  he wanted to buy a couple of  wooden seats, from these old buses -destined for  the scrap yard. People who bought some, like my late dad, were using them for garden benches. The two my dad bought, he painted green, and we had them in front of an old shed, my dad had converted from a wartime air raid shelter, we had them for years.

I remember this old single decker No 28...as  my sister used to live a Hill Top, and my late mum used to go back on it, along with myself -then 4 yrs-old, to get to the Old Church. This one evening as this West Bromwich Corporation No 28 was pulling out from the bus-stop, climbing up Heath Lane, it let out a tremendous Back-fire. That frightened the living daylights out of me, I finished up by putting a finger in both ears. In case, during the course of that trip, Scared stiff that might just happen again. I believe the bus may have been an old "Dennis"?

My late great uncle, William Rock, was a bus driver post war and into the sixties, but i have failed to find any trace of him since as he was persona non grata with my grandmother(his sister Mabel Rock) as he taught her parrot to swear, happy days.
