Great photos of the precinct, but does anyone know what happened to the lump of coal that stood pride of place in a glass case by the fountain. I always remember it being there but I don’t ever remember it being moved. My wife’s Uncle helped to carry it to the glass case and he always told the tale that if it was dropped on the way the carriers would all face instant dismissal.

Those photos really do bring me back, I can remember the fountain but for some reason I can't remember that lump of coal?

I remember the lump of coal, Wasn't the centre funded by the National Coal Board Pension Scheme or summat. Wonder what did happen to it, perhaps it's where the council put the rest of West Bromwich. I see we no have no trees in West Bromwich left I thought you wern't suppose to chop them down between March and September. Sorry I'm moaning again.

I believe the centre was opened by Sir Derek Ezra who was Chairman of the NCB at the time, so they probably were involved with the funding.
