What I can remember, Porters fish shop, Dickens Sports Shop, a shoe shop under the canopy by the Adelphi, there was another shoe shop near chads and I can't think the name of it (?), a newsagents and a bit further up by robinsons was the photographers (What the hell was the name ?) and there was a garage opposite

Yvonne is right, it was Darby's the photographer and that other shoeshop was Walford Cashmores, Porters Fish Shop was about where that wreck of a shop is now, there were other shops under the canopy by the Adelphi but I can'tthink what they were....I was only a babbie ! Paul

Hi all, Don't recognise some of the shoeshops quoted! There was definitely Wassells shoeshop under the canopy in the 50's but don't know when it closed. I always had to go there for my shoes!

I think that was the one that was burnt down in the early 1970s along with the Adelphi Ballroom.
