I believe the blacksmiths you refer to was behind the grocery shop my dad, Stan Gibbons, had on the corner of Hawkes Lane and Hill Street. He Owned it from the early 50's until it was compulsary purchased by the council for redevelopement in the mid 60's.

Behind the shop was the blacksmiths (forge) which was converted to a workshop for motorcycles. There was also a stables. This because the shop and premisses used to be an old staging inn and pub.
