Your banging your head against a brick wall if you think  anyone is going to listen to "the people", its more than there  "jobs worth",  To restore the Pound wont cost them enough money, they have probably got grander ideas [possibly another car park}  or purple elephant. 

 JUST REMEMBER THESE SLIGHTS TO THE HERITAGE OF WEST BROM WHEN VOTING TIME COMES ROUND.

What is the old saying - 'government of the people, by the people, for the people' except in Sandwell it seems. I can not believe that an historical site of this type is set to bne vandalised by the people who I would expect to be protecting our heritage not destroying it. Surely if there are problems of anti social behaviour around the pound that should be what is being addressed - will removing the wall really stop the behaviour as there will still be an open space unless this is all part of a bigger plan to develop that patch of land.

There will be a public consultation regarding the pound and eventually it will come to me for a decision. Let me say now clearly it is not about cost cutting saving money it will be about balancing all views and making the right decision for the benefit of the local people .

Right Oh ...Here's the story !

One person complained....yes ONE about anti-social behaviour around the pound and the council, in their duty, had to investigate that complaint and they are looking into the removal of the wall.

My argument is that there is also anti social behaviour behind the shops 100 yards down the road, I have seen it many many times, the police are always around there moving them on....are they going to knock the shops down ??

You have until Friday to lodge your views to Sharon Lang on 0121 569 4715...Now, when you ring her please understand that it isn't her doing, she is just there to take note of any appeal and how many

Sharon will listen to you, she will listen to your views but please don't rant and rave at her, she is only the listner and not the instigator !

Only just seen this topic (been absent from forum for a bit).  Any updates on this ludicrous, but typical proposal?  So youths sit on the wall.  Are they going to demolish every bloody wall in West Bromwich?  Thinking about it, I reckon they have already made a start.  Why is it that in public life, it invariably seems to be that the greater the influence, the lower the intelligence? The really sad thing about all this, is that I am no longer surprised.

Letter to Derek Rowley duly sent:

Dear Sir,

I have just found out that there is a proposal to demolish the Pound at Old Church because 'youths sit on the walls'. Presumably, therefore , you intend to demolish all the walls in West Bromwich under three feet high just in case someone sits on them! I cannot believe that anyone with a grain of intelligence, let alone one iota of awareness for the history of the town, could seriously put forward this suggestion as a serious proposal. I grew up in West Bromwich and worked for Sandwell LEA for thirty-five years and I am absolutely disgusted with the way the heart, soul and fabric has been ripped out of the town. Successive Councils have, through a steady stream of inept decisions turned a once thriving, attractive Black Country town into a depressing laughing stock for which they should collectively hang their heads in abject shame. This decision should be reversed with immediate effect and all appropriate repairs executed forthwith.
