I am hoping that someone can help me. I recently discovered my great x3 grandfather was publican of the Highland Laddie in the 1860's/1870's. Although I have searched various websites specifically about local pubs in the area in the 19th century I can find very little on the Highland Laddie. Is there anyone that has any information they could share with me about the pub, what it looked like, how old it was, if there are any surviving documents relating to it available etc.  Hope someone can help!

Hi Nikki

I rarely look around the forum, hence the reason for missing your post. It was interesting to see the name Highland Laddie; I was born there in 1952. My father was licensee between 1951 and 1953.

From the little information I have, the pub was at the corner of Neal Street and Spon Lane; address 286 Spon Lane. From the CD - Hitchmough's Black Country Pubs (2nd Edition) available from www.longpull.co.uk. The pub was built in 1875, 3 licensees up to 1888 were, 1. John Bates 1875, 2. George Freeman 1875-1879, 3. David Thompson 1879-1888. I have posted on this site previously for picture requests, also rootsweb, with no success. I once had a picture of me supported by my mom holding a beer-pull, but thats gone missing. I also have the lease agreement between the brewery and my father, thats all! If you have anymore success please let me know.
