Would i be right in thinking that WB has only the one cemetery, at Heath Lane?
I am trying to locate the grave of my brother who passed away around sixty years ago, before i was born.
Believe he may have died in WB and may be buried at Heath Lane.
Does anyone have any ideas how i would go about tracking down his grave.
thank you Neville.. | |

Neville, I believe most of the Burial records are held at Newton Road crem Someone got in touch with me recently with the same question as yours and they got all of their info from Newton Rd and they even supplied a map of where the grave is in Heath lane.(I don't know if there is a charge ?) It could be that your Brother might have been buried at the church local to where he died or where your family attended but Newton Rd should be able to help you I do know that a few months ago they couldn't access some of their records as they were trying to file them all electronically so I don't know if they have finished yet but it will be worth you time just to get in touch with them Here is the info.. West Bromwich Crematorium Forge Lane off Newton Road West Bromwich B71 3SX Tel: 0121 569 6700 Fax: 0121 567 5165 Paul

Yes, all of the records are there and they are really really helpful. I phoned them up and they said it would be better if I went down there so I did. I am sure there are different rules for being cremated to being buried when it comes to viewing the records but they should advise. They didn't charge me and they even gave me a map of Heath Lane with the exact spot of where I wanted and it's really strange when you find this over grown plot with you Great Grandparents in it. If you phone up and want them to do a bit of work checking records, files etc they charge you, think it's £25.00

While on the subject of burials has anyone seen the disgracful state of the graveyard at the old church. My grandparents are buried there and I try to keep their grave tidy on my visits back to West Brom, but am fighting a loosing battle, the church should be ashamed to let the graveyard fall into such a state when it occupies such a prominant position in the town.

Yes Mike, I went back a few weeks ago and it really does look a state. I suppose this is what you get when relatives pass on and leave it to someone else to tend to. It wouldn't take a day to get a group of youngsters who are looking for work to get the place looking right again. I went to Heath Lane cemetery also and, even though it's not as bad as the Old Church site, it was looking a bit worse for wear with those scaffolding holding up the unsafe graves and there was a lot of older gravestones taken down and placed on the grounds

I believe new graves are no longer allowed but they will have burials in family graves already there. There is still a cremation area in use though.

Further to the old church posting, driving down Newton rd tother day i noticed a new road and houses being built on the field behind the graveyard, Yet another bite at the so called green belt. regards J.E.M.

I think you'll find they are 'executive homes' won't build them for the likes of us on the green belt! And they are trying to shift the pound cos it's in the way.
