About Me

Born and bred in West Bromwich, I attended West Bromwich Grammar School.  Left in 1969. Spent a short period in the Police, based at West Bromwich before deciding to go into teaching. Attended Dudley College of Education, studying Art & Design.  Spent 33 years teaching in Sandwell, firstly at Wood Green High School, Wednesbury; then Britannia High School in Blackheath and lastly at Willingsworth High School in Tipton, where I spent the last few years as a Head of Year.  I left Willingsworth in 2008 when it was due to become the RSA Academy together with quite a few other staff.  Since September 2008 I have been doing a bit of Supply work.  As of March 2011, I am officially retired.  Still doing the odd bit of Supply work though.

Hi Stephen
I will ask my mom if she knows Linda Male, when did she live in Dawes Avenue, we left in about 1967, we lived at 110.

Hi Stephen

I think Beirut is closer to reality. At least flattened areas indicates that some much-needed redevelopment is (or may be) taking place. I lived near Vicarage Road and went to All Saints school for a while.

Hi Stephen

I see you have migrated to Redditch from West Brom as I have (via Solihull in my case). Been in Redditch (Church Hill North) over 28 years now and retired a couple of years ago. Still interested in the old town even though it is pretty run down these days. The old photos are fascinating.
Spent most of my working life around Birmingham so more or less lost my West Brom twang.

I shall look forward to the next set..
As you travel down from Hill Top the main offices were on the R H side, the main entrance was through a revolving door into the reception area where a grand staircase curved up to the oak panelled boardroom..not that we mere peasants were allowed up there.(where is the cast bulldogs head set into the glass panel over the door now I wonder?)
Next was the weighbridge, then the garage for J B's Rolls Royce, complete with driver...
From 1962 until the 90's I worked at the Engineering, later renamed Transmissions division just around the corner and down past the Trailor shop.. When most of the company closed I managed to save a number of photo's and other item's, I can send you a few images is you want? I wonder if Paul would be interested in them?

Hello Steve, you continue to surprise me with your photo's! the ones taken at Snow Hill are really brilliant.... why oh why didn't we "rescue" the enamel signs etc etc.. Kidder' museum would have been the perfect home for them...even the oil can shown underneath the south tunnel would now have a loving home at Bewdley MPD. When I worked at Brockhouse I asked the boss if I could recover one of our signs, "what do we want that rubbish for" was his reply..what treasures I could have sneaked onto the lorry that day!
The "bring it to life" picture has me wanting more of the same, what a wonderful idea.
Best wishes and thanks, Terry.

Hi Essa,

I have had another look at my photo of the wheel and enlarged it in iview. I reckon the chalk mark does say 4156. If you look very closely just to the left of the grass stalk, the chalk mark curves back on itself quite sharply and looks to be forming a '6'.

Regards

Steve

Hello Steve.
A little update on 4150's wheels, one of our EMF members believes that they are actually from 4156, this loco was broken up at Barry in the 80's but the wheels were later fitted to GWR mogul 7325 when it was restored.
This loco is presently in the museum at Highley ..

Hello Steve, I have just visited your photo website and noted a couple that are of special interest to me, I am a shareholder/ working member of the Erlestoke Manor Fund.
We own, have restored and maintain the two manors (7802 and 7812) based on the SVR, we are always looking for photos of our loco's, especially pre- restoration. To enable us to update our photo archive would you allow us to copy your photo of 7802 Bradley Manor taken at Barry? also 4150 has now been taken under our wing and restoration is well underway, may we copy this as well?
Regards..
